During the Canary User Conference, August 2025, John Weber and Connor Mason talked about how - using Software Toolbox products and support - a mid-sized renewable and low-carbon energy producer supplying multiple regional utilities overcame challenges to achieve asset visibility of multiple localized data silos to support real-time monitoring, optimization and operational performance management.

The solution deployed included Cogent DataHub, TOP Server and OPC Router to create a centralized data acquisition framework to connect and transmit data from the various sites and assets to centralized data historians. Data from various systems including Siemens, Ignition SCADA, DNP3 Devices and various REST Web Services needed to be collected and transmitted reliably to the local Canary Historian and corporate PI System. TOP Server provided the required drivers to translate the native protocols of the various control systems to OPC. OPC router enables the collection of data streams from the various Web Services into OPC tags, and DataHub helps aggregate and tunnel data securely and efficiently from remote sites.
